Kiwi Laser takes the Galvo Leap

Galvo Laser machines have been around for a long time. The Galvanometer systems are based on moving mirror technology where the mirrors make small adjustments to move the stationary laser beam in different directions within a specific marking area. They are also used to create laser light shows.

I have started designing work with finer details and I found our CO2 CNC type laser wasn't giving me the accuracy I was looking for. It also has a tendency to leave smoke residue on the cut item, which then needs sanding, which is impossible when your product is cardstock for invitations.

I researched the laser field and watched countless YouTube clips.

Enter the Galvo Laser. Here was a laser which is designed for precision.

"Time is Money" - as the old adage goes.

Laser etching a design onto wood or MDF can take a long time, but with a Galvo laser the time is halved or, depending on the design, much less than that.

Not only is productivity improved, but the quality of work is improved, because the Galvo laser is specifically designed for laser marking. That's it's job - and it does a really fine job at that. Cutting fine details onto cardstock and paper is as easy as...

"Choices" - So many lasers to chose from.

The choices are endless. Which one? What size? What company?

Basically, I threw a few enquiries out there into Cyberspace and waited for the replies.

My choice was not based on price, but on product knowledge of the sales person. Alice was willing to take a couple of my designs and have the engineers upload them into their software and mark it on wood, while she filmed it all on her phone and sent it to me. I really appreciated that.

There's nothing as captivating as watching your designs take shape before your eyes. I was grinning like the Cheshire Cat the whole time.

So, long-story-short, I chose the 30 x 30 cm portable model. It is small and compact and can go anywhere if I need it to. At the moment I don't need anything larger and 30x30 is a large enough work area for my designs.

My little darling should be here by mid-October.

Watch this space, Kiwi Laser is entering the Galvo Age.
